Torrid Allover Lace Surplice Dress and Re/Dress Teggings

I really like this Berry Allover Lace Surplice Dress from Torrid.  It's verstile and comfortable.  I wore this on a casual day, going out to lunch and taking kids to the aquarium, with teggings and comfortable shoes.  I can easily see this being dressed up for an evening out as well.

This dress is in a bright pink so it's not for the timid but trying to blend in has never been a concern for me.  It comes with the black skinny belt but I think it looks equally good with a chunky belt.  I'm wearing it in a 4 and I think it runs true to size.  At the time of this post only size 0 and 1 are still available but it is on clearance for $24.98.

The dress is fully lined in a stretchy, matching pink.

It you have not tried Teggings you must.  Really.  It was one of those things I meant to get around to for a long time but I'm kicking myself for waiting so long.  They truly are like if tights and leggings had a baby.  So soft, stretchy, and comfortable.  What is especially good is for me is I have a relatively small waist compared to my hips, 19" calves but then smaller 7 1/2" ankles; and Teggings have been the ONLY product that has fit all of those dimensions perfectly without pinching or bagging anywhere.  Try them!

Halloween: The Fat Girl's History

My household of six is moving during the week of Halloween so it has not gotten its due attention this year but my Elphaba costume from last year is my all-time favorite.  I was very inspired by the Elphaba character after seeing Wicked on stage.  I thought it was brillant to take this unlikable character from The Wizard of Oz (who most of us grew up fearing) and make her sympathic, the heroine.  Truthfully, how many of us had childhood nightmares of her and her flying monkeys?  To me it was very refreshing to take all of our preconceived notions and spin them 180 degrees.  I took it as far as to relate it to all the preconcieved ideas of thin beauty standards and fatness; being judged and labelled solely on the physical.

This costume took little in the way of a special purchases for me.  The top is from SWAK, the skirt is Venezia via Fattoo, and Doc Marten boots; all already in my closet.

The hat was around $3 from Target.  The green glass bottle necklace was purchased off eBay for around $3.  The green make-up I got from Amazon as all the local stores were out of it.

The socks were also purchased off eBay for around $6.  They were designed to be thigh-highs but on me, with my 19" calves they came to just over my knee.

I've been so enmored with and identify so much with Elphaba that this has been my Facebook profile picture for most of the last year.  It has the added benefit of really cutting down on the unwanted attention and solicitations from strange men as well.

This was my second favorite costume, it's from a couple of years ago.  My mister and I are dressed as Beth and Dog Chapman, from the Dog the Bounty Hunter show.

I think what I liked most about this is I was several years into my fat acceptance/body positivity journey and I was finally comfortable being sassy, sexy, and FAT.

This was my Facebook profile picture for a long time.  It did seem to generate a lot of solicitations and offers from strange men.  A lot.  Apparently lots of love at first sight with this, wanting to make me their queen, etc.  I'm sure all of it completely genuine.  Too bad for them I'm already The Queen and have no use for their offers.  This picture still amuses me.

This is from a few years back, "When Pigs Fly".  Not one of my better ideas as neither one of us wanted to be covered in head to toe pig pink.

We're "White Trash".  This was probably one of my first Halloweens after fat acceptance.  Not sexy but we were comfortable and compared to most of the people at the party we were indeed the white trash of the group.

Family themed costumes from about then years ago.  This sounded like a better idea than it turned out to be.  Fluffy, furry costumes are great for taking children around Trick or Treating on a cold October evening, otherwise they are uncomfortable.  These were hot as hell for an indoor party so we all ended up taking them off and then we were disturblingly sweaty and matted.  Don't try this at home.

SWAK Maxine Dress In Leopard Print

When I first planned this post for the week there was still several sizes available for this Maxine Dress from SWAK but atlas they seem to have sold out over the last few days.  If you wear a 1X or a 5X there are still some in that size available, and they're only $19.88!

It's sleeveless, stretchy polyester/spandex knit with a black band at waist.

The back also has a cool exposed zipper.  As you can see the 4 is running a bit big on me, especially at the waist.  The waist running large on me is a common occurance as my waist measures about 19" smaller than my hips.  However, I think the dress runs a little larger overall.  If you're on the smaller end of a size I think you could probably size down.

Since I was planning to generally wear the dress with a cardigan I wasn't too concerned with the top being a bit too loose.  This ruffled cardigan is from a previous Torrid, found on the Facebook Fattoo group.

Most of the day I wore the caridgan buttoned up but it nice to have the versility of unbuttoning it or taking it off while I when through several environments throughout my day.  The shoes are from Klogs.

This post would not be complete without talking about one of my favorite necklaces.  It's an artisan made, goddess glass necklace from one of my favorite women on the Earth.  Her Zaftig Delights shop still has goddess necklaces available, as well as many other beautiful pieces.

SWAK's Nellie Halter Dress

I wasn't going to post about this dress until I got some better non-selfie pictures but scanning SWAK's site today I noticed it was recently further reduced.  This is the Nellie Halter Dress in black cherry.  Many in the Curvy Kitten line ran large but in my opinion this one didn't, especially if you have a larger bust.  I have on a 4 and my bust is about a 44H.  The dress has been reduced to $39.99 from a orginal price of $99.90.  I just ordered the leopard and the pink cherry last week at $49.99.

At the time of this post all color and sizes (14-32) are still available, so get in there if you have been holding off!
